REGISTERED MANAGER

Help Us Build Homes Where Children Can Thrive

QW Accommodation Ltd | Hull & East Riding of Yorkshire
£50,000 per annum | On-call fee | Up to £4,000 Manager Bonus
Full-time | Permanent | 40 hours per week

About the Opportunity

QW Accommodation Ltd is growing its children’s residential services in Hull, and we are looking for an experienced, child-focused residential care professional to lead a new solo children’s home through Ofsted registration and into operation.

This opportunity is open to both experienced Registered Managers and experienced Deputy Managers who are ready to take the next step in their career.

Previous Registered Manager experience is desirable, but it is not essential for the right person.

If you are an experienced Deputy Manager with strong leadership skills, a good understanding of children’s residential care and the ambition to progress into registration, we would genuinely like to hear from you.

Skilled Worker visa sponsorship can be considered for the right candidate, subject to eligibility and the requirements of the role.

You will not be expected to make the step into registration alone. Our Responsible Individual (RI) will take a hands-on approach, providing practical support, guidance and oversight throughout the registration process and as the home develops. You will also have support from our Service Manager and senior leadership team.

Initially, your focus will be on establishing and managing one solo children’s home.

As QWA’s children’s residential service develops, the expectation is that your role will grow to include oversight of a second home, which may be another solo home or a dual/two-bed home.

We want someone who can grow with us and play an important role in shaping the future of our children’s residential services in Hull.

Build a Home From the Beginning

This is not simply an opportunity to take over an established service.

You will be involved from the beginning and will have the opportunity to help shape the home, recruit your team and establish the culture and standards of care from day one.

You will help:

  • Prepare the home for Ofsted registration
  • Recruit, develop and support your staff team
  • Create a warm, nurturing and child-focused environment
  • Shape the culture, routines and expectations of the home
  • Develop systems and working practices
  • Contribute to the Statement of Purpose
  • Establish high standards of safeguarding and professional practice
  • Develop your Deputy Manager and senior staff
  • Build positive relationships with social workers, local authorities and other professionals
  • Ensure children are listened to and involved in decisions about their lives and their home

Our aim is simple: to create homes where children feel safe, settled, listened to and valued.

At QWA, Quality With Assurance is at the heart of what we do. We believe services should be built around the individual needs of children rather than expecting children to fit around the service.

Experienced Deputy and Ready to Progress?

We know there are talented Deputy Managers working in children’s residential care who are already taking significant responsibility but have not yet been given the opportunity to become a Registered Manager.

If that sounds like you, we encourage you to apply.

We are interested in your experience, leadership ability, knowledge of residential childcare and your potential to develop into a strong Registered Manager.

For the right candidate, this could be an opportunity to take that next step with experienced people around you providing support, guidance and practical help.

Level 5 Qualification

Ideally, you will already hold the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England) or an appropriate equivalent.

If you do not yet hold your Level 5 but have the right experience and are willing and eligible to work towards the required qualification, we would still encourage you to apply.

QWA can fund and support the completion of the relevant Level 5 qualification where appropriate.

Your Role

As Registered Manager, you will provide strong, visible and child-focused leadership.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the solo home through Ofsted registration and into operation
  • Ensuring compliance with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards
  • Keeping safeguarding and children’s welfare at the centre of decision-making
  • Recruiting, leading, supervising and developing your staff team
  • Establishing a positive culture and high standards of professional practice
  • Overseeing care planning, risk assessments, safeguarding and behaviour support
  • Ensuring children receive individualised care based on their needs, wishes, feelings, strengths and risks
  • Making careful and considered decisions around admissions and matching
  • Monitoring the quality of care and outcomes for children
  • Maintaining effective auditing and quality-assurance systems
  • Ensuring the home remains safe, well maintained and Ofsted-ready
  • Managing staffing, rotas and resources effectively
  • Building strong relationships with families, social workers, local authorities, education, health and other professionals
  • Participating in the management on-call rota
  • Developing strong Deputy Managers and senior staff
  • Supporting the development of further QWA children’s homes as the service grows

Initially, your management responsibility will be for one solo children’s home.

As the service develops, the expectation will be for your remit to grow to include a second solo or dual/two-bed home. This will form part of your development with QWA as our children’s residential provision grows.

About You

We welcome applications from existing Registered Managers and experienced Deputy Managers who are ready to progress.

You should have:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience within the last 5 years in a role relevant to the residential care of children
  • At least 1 year’s experience supervising or managing staff working in a care role
  • Strong safeguarding knowledge and professional judgement
  • A good understanding of children’s residential care, the Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards
  • The ability to lead, motivate and develop a staff team
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • An understanding of auditing, monitoring and quality assurance
  • The confidence to work effectively with Ofsted, local authorities and other professionals
  • A child-focused approach to leadership
  • A genuine commitment to creating a home where children feel safe, cared for, listened to and valued

Previous Registered Manager experience is desirable but not essential for the right candidate.

Experience of opening, registering or mobilising a children’s home would be an advantage, but we recognise that capable people sometimes need someone to give them their first opportunity.

What We Offer

  • £50,000 per annum
  • On-call fee
  • Up to £4,000 Manager Bonus, subject to scheme terms
  • 32 days’ annual leave
  • Skilled Worker visa sponsorship can be considered for the right candidate, subject to eligibility
  • Hands-on support and guidance from our Responsible Individual
  • Support from our Service Manager and senior leadership team
  • Support throughout the Ofsted registration process
  • Funding and support towards the required Level 5 qualification where appropriate
  • Company-funded training and professional development required for the role
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Perks at Work
  • The opportunity to build a children’s home from the beginning
  • A genuine progression opportunity for an experienced Deputy Manager
  • The opportunity to grow into oversight of an additional home as the service develops
  • The opportunity to influence the future development of QWA’s children’s residential services in Hull

Come and Grow With Us

Or you may be an experienced Deputy Manager thinking that you are ready for registration but just need someone to give you the opportunity.

You will initially be able to concentrate on establishing one solo home, building your team and getting the culture and quality of care right.

As our service develops, we want you to develop with us, with the expectation that your role will grow to include oversight of a second solo or dual home.

If this sounds like the next step you have been looking for, we would love to hear from you.
